a guidebook for case managers and peers

Adaptions for Implementing MISSION with American Indian and Alaska Populations: A Guidebook for Case Managers and Peer Support Specialists is a publication adapted from the original MISSION Manual. This guidebook tailors MISSION service components to better meet the needs of American Indian and Alaska Populations (AI/AN) individuals and is supported by grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS; Grant #’s 1H79TI080430 1; H79 TI081925-01; TI-18-008 and the Veteran’s Administration Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (VA QUERI; Grant # VA QUE 15-284).

Peer Recovery Coaches Herbert Halfcrow Boyd of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Indian Health Services and Naomi Frye of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s Health and Human Services Department generously contributed to the creation of this MISSION adaptation, sharing with us about their Native cultures and offered important insights gained from their peer recovery work. Cedric Woods, Director of the Institute for New England Native American Studies, University of Massachusetts Boston, also provided very thoughtful feedback and resources throughout the development of this guidebook.
